Forgejo Upgrade Party and Get-Together

Upgrade your Forgejo instances to v8.0 or set up your personal Git hosting - together with the Forgejo team!

Let's upgrade together!

The Forgejo v8 release is available. Let's update our Forgejo instances to the new version, discover issues with the Forgejo team and talk about what's new.

We are looking forward to meeting with you in our OpenTalk meeting, learning from you as you do your upgrades, and assisting or fixing bugs if necessary.

You can also use the opportunity to set up your personal Forgejo instance or upgrade from Gitea if you haven't had the chance already.

How will it look like?

This should be considered an experiment, but the gist is:

  • you join the meeting and participate in small talk or get help from us
  • Forgejo contributors are around to talk to
  • we are looking forward to learn from you: How do you use Forgejo? What is your setup? Which challenges do you run into?
  • optionally, you can also join a user testing / research session, read on if you are interested
  • you are free to join the meeting, even if you don't plan to work on an instance

Participate in user research / testing

We want to use the meeting to learn from you. The challenges you might encounter will provide us valuable insights to make Forgejo even more comfortable to admins and users.

If you want to take it a little further, we invite you to join a break out room and do (some of) the following

  • read the release notes together, so we can learn what might be confusing to you (ideally avoid reading them in advance if you are interested to participate)
  • we talk about your setup and general impressions
  • optionally, you can start a screen share and we'll observe how you perform the upgrade, and note down any challenges that could help us improve future development
  • optionally, you can go ahead and test new functionality, again for us to observe and learn from you

No audio/video?

We do not require anyone to enable audio or video, but you are free to share your webcam if you like. Most participants will probably use audio chat, so having working speakers will result in the best experience. You can use text-only communication if you do not have a microphone or if you are not comfortable with sharing your voice.

A note about technical talks:

This event focuses on learning about technical details and the system administrator's experience of Forgejo, and might not always make it easy to participate without background in these areas. However, we invite everyone interested to join us, and we hope that small talk will allow everyone to participate.

Please get in touch with fnetx / Otto Richter in case you have feedback about the ongoing event or suggestions on how technical entry barrier can be reduced. Also, feel free to help with user research / testing.
